Overview
The first episode of "Because it’s Mercedes-Benz" served as the definitive kickstart for our production company. When director Oliver Wergers approached us with the ambitious idea of blending a modern YouTube format with the cinematic quality of anamorphic optics, it felt like a technical impossibility. However, we embraced the challenge, collaborating closely to develop a concept that would elevate digital storytelling. Featuring prominent hosts Becky Evans and Elly Wong, the episode set a new standard for Youtube series and paved the way for six more successful installments.
Challenges & Approach
The production pushed both our team and the equipment to the limit within the Mercedes-Benz climatic wind tunnel. We faced the immense challenge of filming in extreme simulated environments—ranging from sub-zero, icy conditions to blistering heat exceeding 40°C, mimicking the climate of Dubai—all within a single hall. To maintain the series' signature look despite these harsh conditions, we utilized specialized anamorphic lenses. This allowed us to capture the vehicles in "frozen" landscapes and "burning" sun with a cinematic breadth that brought a high-end film aesthetic to a social media platform.
The result
The first episode was a massive success, proving that YouTube content could achieve the visual prestige of a feature film. The stunning contrast of the vehicles against extreme weather simulations, combined with the professional chemistry of Becky and Elly, resonated instantly with the audience. This "first strike" not only established our reputation for handling complex technical productions but also successfully launched a long-term series that became a benchmark for automotive branded content.
